vSphere & Intel JCC, TAA, and MCEPSC/IFU: What You Need to Know
This post is all about CPU vulnerabilities & remediation in vSphere.
This doesn’t tell you what to do, but rather provides options for what you can do. Here this from customers often enough, that these posts are worth referring back to.

VMware Project Pacific – Beta open
Can’t wait for the release?
Get in on this beta.
The announcement of the beta program states it is limited access.
It provides a link to request access.

vmx.reboot.PowerCycle – a VMX entry to help with…
Found this when looking at the CPU vulnerability article (in this post as well). I immediately thought of power cycle needs for EVC mode…
This is a new option, in a VMX file, which will wait for the VM to have a guest OS reboot, which this entry will then power-off then powered-on again (even if the VM’s guest OS just called for a reboot)….then the entry will be removed.
This REQUIRES VMware Tools (no word on Open-VM-tools, but I expect that will works as well).
You can always add the entry back if you need to power-off / power-on again.
This post covers the topic above, and has the PowerCLI to pass this on to VMs when you need it.

VMware Bitnami – Apps for everyone
When VMware acquired Bitnami, it was obvious (to me) that it was going to get integrated into the VMware Cloud Marketplace.
With this offering, it was expected (by me) bob e available on VMware on AWS first, which it was. It has also been available on PKS and vCD for a while.
Now, Bitnami Apps are available on prem for vSphere as well.
This announcement covers it.
Here is the link to the VMware Cloud Marketplace.
Look for the icons that show vCD, PKS, VMC on AWS, on-prem, or container availability.

VMware Enterprise PKS 1.6 released – with Tanzu Mission Control support
Highlights are a single OVA deployment and full lifecycle management of all its components.
I hope that Tanzu Mission Control will pan out, as it is in beta with PKS right now.
This post is the announcement.
Release notes are here.

VMware Best Practices for Kubernetes on SDDC
This blog post offers 2 papers, one on VMware Enterprise PKS, and the other on Red Hat OpenShift on VMware SDDCs.
I gave the PKS document a glance, and that will be in my reading list for early this week.

KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America 2019 Playlist
Apparently, these 300+ videos have been posted just days after KubeCon wrapped up.
Everything from 1 minute talks, to the full 1 hour sessions captured.
This YouTube playlist has them all.
Still haven’t found anywhere to search through a list, so this playlist is all I have for now…

VMware Flings of Note
Cross vCenter Workload Migration Utility – got an update recently

Nutanix ERA – DBaaS
Nutanix has had the ERA DBaaS offering for a short while now.
Supporting, and automating the deployment, patching, and SLAs associated with DBs, including DB snapshots (as well as their retentions).
Today, Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, Microsoft SQL, and MariaDB, are supported, with more coming soon.
This writeup covering ERA DBaaS capability was written by Maksim Malygin, a Global Solutions Architect at Nutanix.

Google acquired CloudSimple
That was fast.
I first learned about CloudSimple early in 2019, as a friend of mine has been there for quite a few years developing the solution.
Saw it shine at VMworld 2019 this year, and how it enabled VMware on Azure.
I wasn’t expecting this acquisition, but this looks like it will really make VMware on Google Cloud available soon.
