AT&T Suing Broadcom over VMware Licensing?
Not sure how this will play out, but it IS interesting….
AT&T suing Broadcom about support for existing licensing commitments….
Caveat here is AT&T didn’t meet timelines, so not sure how I WOULD take this….
3 different takes….

VMware vCenter 7 & 8 gets updated.

vSphere 8.0 Update 3b – vSphere Web Client becomes unresponsive
Immediately following my upgrade to my vSphere environment where I was teaching class…this came out that morning.
Yup, 8.0 u3b fixes the CVE, and then breaks a part of vCenter.
Broadcom Article ID: 377734 – how to resolve this.
Already up to vSphere 8.0 u3b, and applied this fix in multiple environments.
…and yes, tested a backup on vCenter right away!

VMware NSX VPC
I wish this was available without NSX.
I get why it is not.
Won’t find this in vSphere 7 environments…..
Here is the 1-hour video on YouTube

VMware VCF Import Tool
This is the tool to migrate to the full VCF software stack, if you already have a deploy vSphere (and maybe some of the other components of VCF).
Lots of details in this VMware Blog post, including specific versions you must be at for this tool to work.

Install Microsoft Azure Stack HCI as VMs in your lab
….not for production, but to learn it.
Long post, but it takes you through the whole thing!

You were opted in…..all LinkedIn users were.
Saw this twitter post, and checked my settings, and yup…I was opted in.
Made the appropriate changes.
Companies that auto opt-in for things need to stop.
I stopped using any Amazon devices for that same reason (when Amazon allowed every house with Alexa or Ring to offer WiFi to everyone via
Amazon Sidewalk).

ROBO or Edge locations (or even for homelab)?
William Lam has a nice writeup on this after getting to play with the new server from Asus…
Even has an IPMI (BMC) interface!

iOS 18 with a Mac with macOS 15 (Sequoia)
One of the things I was looking forward to was iPhone Mirroring.
This would let me use/interact with my iPhone from my Mac.
Your phone needs WiFi (same network as your Mac) and Bluetooth on.
….and then….your phone needs to be near your Mac.
Even when it is right next to my Mac, connections are spotty, at best.
Worse….I leave my phone about 15 feet away from me (up 1 floor).
Can’t use this feature unless it is RIGHT NEXT to the Mac……
Hopefully they polish this for my use case.

Nutanix Prism Central vs NCM (Nutanix Cloud Manager)
Been some confusion, even on my part, about this licensing.
Prism Central is free….it can monitor many Nutanix Clusters.
Prism Central is required, as it allocates licenses to your Nutanix Clusters.
BUT…Prism Central itself isn’t what most folks want….
We want the capabilities of NCM, which we USE Prism Central to utilize.
The absolute basic implementation of Prism Central gives you the centralized location to manage licensing, and see your licensed Nutanix Clusters.
…but that’s it.
NCM unlocks the functionality most of us are looking for.
Right from the ROBO page of Nutanix…..
Prism Central offers an organizational view …all remote and local Nutanix clusters to a single Prism Central deployment. This global management experience offers a single place to monitor performance, health, and inventory for all Nutanix clusters. Prism Central is available in a standard version included with every Nutanix deployment and as a separately licensed Nutanix Cloud Manager Intelligent Operations version that enables several advanced features.
Here is a page highlighting the different features available in the different NCM versions of Starter, Pro, and Ultimate.
99.9% of us ABSOLUTELY need NCM Starter.
Most of us WANT NCM Pro.
A few of us need, and are ready for, NCM Ultimate.

NGT (Nutanix Guest Tools)
Went down a rabbit hole last week with questions regarding NGT.

Nutanix AHV – set a VM’s MAC
Haven’t had this request in a while….
Link to Nutanix Article 000003670…
How to set MAC address for VM NIC on AHV cluster….
This is in regards to doing a VM migration from ESXi to AHV.
When using Nutanix Move…it is possible to keep the MAC address the same as it was on ESXi when converting.
