VMware Certifications VCP-2019
VMware had announced last year that they were attempting to have VCP exams (as well as VCAP exams) released on a more predictive schedule.
Karl Childs announced that the new exams are starting to be released.
His post, and release dates are linked here.
VMware Workspace ONE – What does it do for me?
Found this when preparing for a presentation.
It is a short 15 minute video of what Workspace ONE is from the administrator’s perspective, as well as what and end user sees.
It demonstrates deploying an app, deploying an app with DLP (data loss prevention), conditional access, and how different types of users would see these apps with different levels of restricted access.
If you are thinking about VDI, have VDI and are ready for the next steps, take the 15 minutes and check this out.
With all the VDI I have seen deployed in the past 10 years, people are finally taking the next step into EUC (End User Computing) to deliver and manage applications for users.
VMware Workpace ONE – A Customer Journey
The company I work for, WEI, has done a lot of VDI over the past 7 years.
A lot.
But, over the past 2 years, we have seen the adoption of VMware Workspace ONE starting to get the attention.
Workspace ONE is quite a few different technologies, with VDI being one of them, that focuses on control for IT, and ease of use for users.
Here is a great write up of a customer moving forward with Workspace ONE Intelligence, with all of the features Workspace ONE offers.
vROPs – How Memory Metrics have changed
vROPs has gone through some pretty big changes over the past few versions, and how metrics have been collected and presented have changed.
This post from VMware give a nice 5 minute read covering how Memory Metrics have changed in <6.6.1, 6.3, 6.7, and 7.0 of vROPs.
vROPs – an ESXTOP Dashboard
While vROPs is a great tool, there are still times when ESXTOP is required.
Well, Mike Gelhar recently posted a custom vROPs Dashboard, on VMware Code, that does just that.
Take a look at, or download it, here.
VMware vRSLCM Enhancement
When vRSLCM (vRealize Suite LifeCycle Manager) was introduced, it had a limitation, which has since been addressed.
vRSLCM supports quite a few of the vRealize products….but….each vRSLCM release only supported a specific version of those vRealize Products.
That meant you needed to wait for a new version of vRSLCM before you could update any of the vRealize software products under its control.
With vRSLCM 1.3, you can add support for newer versions of the vRealize products with something called a PSPAK (Product Support Pack File).
Read the details of the announcement here.
What is a Service Mesh
Have you heard about this, but don’t really know what it is?
Niran Even-Chen wrote up a nice little piece to explain what Service Mesh is, and compared it to things like VMs & Containers.
Not deep, but a good high-level overview of Service Mesh.
Veeam Availability Suite 9.5 update 4
This has got to be coming in the next few weeks. Have heard a lot about its new features, and most of us will appreciate the support for vSphere 6.7 U1.
Just keeping an eye out for it now….
Nutanix – migrating IBM AIX Workloads
Nutanix had announced that they will be able to run AIX VMs.
IBM recently posted a tutorial of how the migration to an IBM HCI running AHV would work.
Pretty cool to see how simple this process can be…
Nutanix Files 3.2.0
Now available with AOS 5.6 – 5.10.
Supporting up to 140-TB file shares, and all AOS users get 1-TB free.
Using Visual Studio Code for Powershell
Want the Powershell ISE experience in Visual Studio Code?
This Microsoft document covers that.
While it is not TRULY the ISE experience, simple things like TAB auto-complete are welcome.
An article from the Microsoft document (linked at the bottom) gets right into the setup of VS Code for Powershell.
AWS Architecture Center
Need a reference architecture for anything on AWS?
This is a great place to start.
They even have a section covering VMware on AWS, and cover multi-AZ deployments for highly available services (SQL always on or Oracle RAC).
VMware on AWS – Build a Multi-AZ vSAN Stretched Cluster
The one minute video show how its done.
Yes, it assumes you have seen VMware on AWS before, but it is pretty cool to see this laid out in 1 minute.
