Virtual Update 2019-04-29

VMware EMPOWER review
This was a great event.
Meeting my peers from around the world.
Validating that the company I work for, WEI, is focusing on the right things for our customers from the VMware point of view, as well as what my peers are doing.
The NDA insights received on many things, products and vision….
Working with the leadership at VMware during the event.
Working with the VMware Education team at the event.
I really wish that all customers could see what the partners do during this VMware EMPOWER event, and how much effort goes into it.
Yes, it is a “Partner-Only” version of VMworld, but what the partners get from this event benefits our customers so much. Our recommendations to our customers, our designs, implementations, and other choices we offer to customers is heavily influenced from these types of events.
Other than the networking with peers, the best benefit of this event for us partners, is that the REAL experts are right there for us to engage with.
I wish this was an event all partners could attend every 3 months……

Conferences Coming Up
This week is DellEMC World.
Next week is both Nutanix Next & RedHat Summit
Should be quite a bit of news from those events in the next two weeks….

Docker Hub lost keys/token during breach?
Came across this yesterday, but haven’t heard much.
Right at the bottom of the article: “…Docker is asking impacted users and customers to reset their passwords and it has revoked their GitHub access keys and tokens.”

VMware vSphere 6.7 U2 Performance Scheduling
Want to restore your performance back to what it was prior to the L1TF patches?…..
the description (copied from the site) of this downloadable PDF….
VMware vSphere® 6.7 U2 includes new scheduler options that secure it from the L1TF vulnerability, while also retaining as much performance as possible. This paper provides an overview of the security issues, description of this new scheduler option, and the results of performance testing with different scenarios. Depending on many factors, the overall impact to performance varies, but, in general, the new scheduler option allows for most scenarios to recapture a significant amount of the performance that was lost due to the L1TF security mitigations and patches.
You can find the paper here.V

Edge Computing – How Chick-fil-A does it
I found this to be an interesting article.
The logic they use when covering the distributed versus centralized models makes a lot of sense, especially when you consider the way it impacted their agility. Good 10 minute read.

VMware SRM 8.1.2
An update focused on providing NSX-T support.
Release Notes are here.

VMware Workspace ONE & Horizon Reference Architecture
This update guide covers both scenarios for both products, and combinations as well…..cloud based or on premises. Best practices are included as well. A bit extensive.
You can access this document here.
whether using cloud-based deployments or installing on-premises. Design guidance is given for each product—with a corresponding component design chapter devoted to each product—followed by chapters that provide best practices for integrating the components into a complete platform.

VMware Identity Manager 19.03
I like the versioning …..easy to see when things get released….
Remember….vIDM is also Workspace ONE, so that’s where most of the features fall under.
Release notes are here.

vRealize Network Insight 4.1
Some really good enhancements around app discovery.
Improvements around AWS.
…and of course, NSX-T enhancements
Release Notes are here.

VMware Visios of VVD with NSX-T
OK, so Visio’s might not be exciting….but take a look here.
So many good diagrams that you can use for NSX-T, SDDC, Networking configurations,……well worth the 10 minutes to download and check out the 3 drawings in this ZIP.
