Nutanix .Next was great!
Spent time learning details or 3-tier storage (Pure Storage (fine, Everpure), Dell PowerFlex, & Dell PowerStore).
…while going against the HCI that made Nutanix great, they really made the experience for admins great.
VCF Licensing – planning who has access to your Licesnes
This blog post provides one set of thoughts about how to configure permissions for accessing Broadcom VCF Licensing.
You use the Broadcom’s VCF Business Service Console to “register” VCF Operations, and then license your vCenters.
Lots of thoughts about how to carve this out, and they will all vary by customer (org structure, politics, parent/child corporate relationships, business teams, etc)
Deploy VKS in VCF 9 – design considerations
This is a long post by Devyn Harrington.
Well, technically titled “Depolying a Supervisor”….
…you only do that if you plan to deploy VKS….
…which requires a NSX Design (yea…not doing vDS for this)….
…which is required if you want to do “All Aps” in VCF Automation…
My takeaways?
VCF Networking with VPC vs NSX Classic. (NSX Classic prevents “All Apps”)
Finish your networking design before enabling Supervisor.
Active/Standby vs Active/Active in VKS? (Active/Standby for predicability)
There is a lot more in this post….all with details that need to be ironed out BEFORE you even get to enabling the Supervisor….
VCF Reference Architecture Builder
Tommy Grot at it again…
This tool is a Visio-like tool.
Drag & drop your VCF components, and you can export out: Network Requirements, switch configuration, BOM, JSON Specs, PNG, & SVG.
Takes a few minutes to get comfortable with it….they it just works.
VirtualBytes VCF Reference Architecture Builder link is here.
VCF API & PowerCLI updates
Noticed this, because William Lam mentioned it….
VCF 9.0 API Changelog
VCF 9.0 PowerCLI Changelog
VMware PowerCLI gets renamed to VCF PowerCLI
had to repost this….Seems this gets overlooked often….
Just run the following to get updated:
Uninstall-Module -Name VMware.PowerCLI
Install-Module -Name VCF.PowerCLI
Everything still works as it has in the past per Broadcom announcement/post.
….and it aligns with VCF versioning, so it is version 9.x.
VMware Blog post is here, and gets a bit deeper.ld
PowerCLI script – NIC Firmware Inventory
I don’t have a need for this right away, but I know I just might….
“… a clear and reliable overview of the installed NIC firmware versions across all hosts in specific VMware clusters.”
Very nice script developed by Vincent Jansen.
Amazon S3 Files – access your S3 buckets!
Noticed this via WEI team member Keith Lafaso…
I wanted this years ago, and glad to see it finally make an appearance.
This is for EC2, containers, & Lamda Functions currently….
“The file system presents S3 objects as files & directories, supporting all NFS v4.1+ operations like creating, reading, updating, & deleting files.”

Nutanix Objects – historical data sync
Have a bucket with data that’s been around for a while, and now you want to set up (DR) replication?
Read on, how this new feature (capability?) makes life easier setting this up.
Nutanix Blog post is here.
Kubernetes Anti-Patterns
Sounds funny to say Anti-Patterns….
If moving from VMs to containers (for your applications), this highlights how you should be thinking differently about your K8s workloads….day to day as well as how you architect for Business Continuity (and DR considerations).
Nutanix Dev post is here.
Nutanix MST (Multicloud Snapshot Technology) for DR
A friend, Mike Dent, put this together, and its a great overview of how Nutanix MST can be a great capability for your DR Plans….
Cost effective, and now with “Instant Restore”
(must read to interpret that correctly)
Mike Dent’s post is here.
