Was a busy few weeks….

There were a lot of similar announcements to VMware Explore US.
There were some additional announcements.
Found a nice summary blog post here….not a short read.

VMware Data Services Manager
To meet, this looks a lot like NDB (Nutanix DataBase, which used to be called Era), which I believe has some additional value….won’t know till I explore this new offering a bit more as it becomes available.
Another use of the term, namespace.
But, it is another self-service portal where developers can get their DBs, and stay within the best practices of the organization.

vSphere 8 – NUMA & Cores Per Socket changes
VM’s with VMX-20 no longer have the traditional Cores Per Socket setting.
It’s been moved to VM Options –>
So long as you deploy within a Single NUMA node for CPU & RAM, you VM is placed within a NUMA node.
Also, vNUMA still will not support Hot-CPU add.

vCenter 7 to 8 upgrades….dealing with errors.
Well, Jorge ran into errors.
While I have not had any issues in my upgrades, most of mine are done in lab environments….so they are not long lived.
I’ve seen folks run into similar issues from vSphere 6 to 7 upgrades too.
He links to VMware KBs, and talks through his issues in this post.
