Another round of ESXi ransomware
Brought up by one of the WEI team members….
Please make sure you are patched, and if you expose your ESXi hosts on the internet, please stop!

vCenter 8.0 receives another patch
One of the items reviewing the release notes is the section:
Deprecation of vSphere Lifecycle Manager baselines
What does this mean?
Cluster members need to be as similar as possilble.
Remember, the new Image Based management only allows for 1 combination of ESXi version and Firmware / Drivers.
That means any of your cluster members need to be able to use the same drivers and software versions….
Which means rethinking the way you design Clusters!
I bring this up now, because if you are buying hardware now, you probably want it in prod for 3-5 years.
Thinking about it now will give you a cluster that can continue to be managed by vCenter, and easily patched & managed.
Not sure what VMware’s official stance is, but they seem committed to removing baselines (the old Update Manager approach)

ESXi 8.0 gets to 8.0b
Can’t have vCenter without an ESXi update.

Looks like VMC on AWS only right now.
This has been around for awhile, and I expected by now that Azure & GCP would be here….
Anyway, here’s the link to VMware Cloud Sizer.
VMware Horizon now with Amazon WorkSpaces
Didn’t think I would see this option, but Horizon can now serve Amazon WorksSpaces.

VMware Fusion & Parallels get Windows 11 support on Apple M1/2 chips
When Apple introduce the new “M” chips, and changed from x64 to ARM, we were no longer able to run Windows as a VM using either Fusion, or Parallels desktop software.
Now, both have figured it out with Microsoft.

NVD (Nutanix Validated Designs)
Just noticed that EPIC and Meditech are here (for my healthcare folks).
View, Cloudera, Citrix, SAP, RedHat OpenShift, Splunk, SAS, Oracle, MS SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Mongo, Unified Storage, Files, Volumes, Networking, etc.
Such a wealth of knowledge.
These NVDs are showing high level enterprise deployments.
You can customize to your needs, as they provide the guidance, things to consider (requirements/constraints/assumptions) to roll your own.
NVDs are here.
Nutanix GTS 2023
I was lucky enough to be invited to the Nutanix Engineering team only conference.
Had a great time, met many peers, product managers, became part of the first official Nutanix PTAB (Partner Technical Advisory Board), and learned so much.
While getting a chance in May to reconvene with PTAB during .NEXT, I think having the partners involved to this extent will be rewarding for partners AND Nutanix.
Nutanix AOS 6.6 STS with PC 2022.9
Lots of cool new things.
Though with 6.6 being an STS release (beta), its cool to see what’s coming.
MSP for PC is now the default.
Kicking the tires on that.
Recommendation (for now)….keep with 2022.6 until the upgrades are smoothed out.
Free Nutanix Training & Exam Vouchers
Came across this when someone at Nutanix GTS shared it with me.
List of free training courses mapping to different NCA, many NCPs, and NCM-MCI.
Take the online course, get an exam voucher!
Must complete the course by end of February, so not much time remaining.
