Session recommendations from Angelo Luciani

CPU Pinning is NOT a guarantee to a CPU
Man, 20+ years of this conversation….
Frank Denneman has a few credentials that make him one of THE experts on this topic, and if you don’t believe me, well….his post revisiting this topic is here, and is among the simplest explanation of why this is a bad thing.

Securing ESXi – why TPM is key
Another new author here….but great info….
Many servers get put into production without TPM chips (TPM 2.0 is current).
This should change, and security is the driver.
EVERY server should be ordered with a TPM chip, now…and moving forward (until the next gen tech replaces TPM).
ESXi hosts are not exempt from ransomware attacks (his post has links).
Great overall security posturing, and guidance on the TPM implementation,
which is TPM 2.0 Chip, UEFI Secure Boot Setting, ESXi advanced option.

VMware NSX-T 3.1.3 released
Primarily a maintenance release.
Release Notes are here.

VMware Horizon & AT&T Wireless – weird issues
I can’t speak to the validity of this, as I don’t know the author (yet).
Still, an interesting issue being described on this post, when using AT&T wireless to get access to a VMware Horizon View environment.

VMware Horizon – Microsoft Teams Optimizations
Running VDI and using Microsoft Teams?
Take advantage of these tips, and optimize your users’ experience (that’s what it is all about anyways, right?).
VMware Tech Zone post is here.

vRLCM (vRealize LifeCycle Manager) – What is it, & why do I own it already?
Good overview, talks about licensing, usage, and general workflow.
This 28-minute YouTube video let’s John Dias, Matthew Bradford, &
Thomas Bryant give you an overview.

vSAN Script – detailed VM space utilization script
William Lam is just always in these posts…busy guy.
This simple script does just what it says, but uses the vSAN API.
(and if you are just starting out with scripting, this PowerCLI script uses functions and API calls…so a good simple reference)
You can see his post & script here.

Veeam – create a vCenter Role with required permissions
Yes, you can easily just make it administrator of the vCenter, but wouldn’t the minimum required permissions make more sense?
Yes, but then you have to do the work and get it configured.
Falko Banaszak recently did a post with the end result, a PowerCLI script to create a Role in vCenter for Veeam, with minimalist permissions, using the Best Practices for Veeam.

Nutanix & Red Hat – Strategic Partnership for Multicloud
This was somewhat surprising, but hey…given that AHV is a derivativeof KVM…
In short…
The Nutanix Platform is the preferred HCI choice for RHEL & OpenShift.
Red Hat OpenShift is the PREFERRED choice for Enterprise Kubernetes on Nutanix.
Pretty cool!
Nutanix Press Release is here.

Nutanix Frame & ProfileUnity
While Frame does have a way to maintain user persistence in a non-persistent desktop pool, Liquidware’s ProfileUnity is really powerful, and has been around for quite a few years.
Covers the differences, pros, and cons of the two solutions.
This Nutanix Blog post covers how these two products work well together.
