Virtual Updates 2024-02-19

VMware Edge Compute Stack
VECS (VMware Edge Comute Stack).
VECO (VMware Edge Cloud Orchestrator).
Learn what those new terms mean in the post.
But is this the replacement for the old ROBO offerings?
It might be, as it comes with VVF….gotta learn more…
VMware Blog post is here.

vSphere 8 Update 2 – Identify Federation
So with vSphere 7, ADFS was the only iDP option.
Now, there is Azure AD (Entra ID) and Okta support.
Noticed a nuance in this post…. right from the documentation….
“If you have an Enhanced Linked Mode configuration of 3 vCenter Server systems,
A, B, and C, and you configure the Okta identity provider on vCenter Server A,
vCenter Server A is the only system to handle all the Okta logins.
vCenter Server B & vCenter Server C do not directly communicate with Okta.
What that means to me, is we have a SPOF that we need to consider if doing Enhanced Linked Mode, ….because only 1 of the 3 vCenters in the example handles the authentication with the iDP.

vSphere Configuration Profiles
With Host Profiles going away (in the next major version of vSphere) AND
with vLCM deprecating Baselines and moving to Image Based Management…
Replacing Host Profiles….is vSphere Configuration Profiles.
Want to get a jump start on using them?
The post introduces you to the workflow.

vSphere Metrics Book 3rd Edition

vCenter vLCM – PowerCLI

Applicable to both Prism Central and Nutanix Clusters (Prism Element).
Have a requirement to prevent SSH use with username/password, and force the use of public/private keys to gain access as the way to connect to the AHV hosts or Nutanix CVMs?
This has been around for as long as I can remember.
Haven’t seen people doing it.
Found this post, which I think is great, as it also explains how to create your public/private key pair.
Windows users….just run the Linux commands in PowerShell.
ssh-keygen is there.
